Sony’s announcements at E3

Sony certainly took the opportunity to showcase their offerings seriously at E3 this year, with announcements for both handheld and their faithful console gamers.

With hugely anticipated titles like The Last of Us, God of War: Ascension and LittleBigPlanet: Karting being labeled the ‘ones to watch’, Sony have thrown us all off by introducing Datura, The Unfinished Swan and the astonishing Wonderbook. The videos were watched by millions of viewers across the world, and left many extremely excited about the next 12 months of gaming, and Gamedot HQ isn’t any different.

Wonderbook: Book of Spells
Sony may have been accused of neglecting the abilities and potential of the PS Move and Eye, but with a little help from J.K. Rowling it became the talk of Sony’s E3 presentation. Wonderbook: Book of Spells has come straight from the mind that brought us Harry Potter and will be heading straight for the imaginations of the children of the world. Using Augmented Reality, Wonderbook: Book of Spells collaborates the Playstation Move ‘wand’ and a new piece of hardware; the Wonderbook to bring stories to life on the TV screen.

More information regarding the Wonderbook and possible release dates should be announced soon.

The Last of Us

Since it’s original announcement last December, Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us has been causing quite a stir. With it’s intelligent AI combat system and simply stunning graphics, this survival horror hasn’t been far from Playstation gamer’s minds.

The Last of Us hasn’t got a release date yet, but word on the street is it’ll be Q1 2013.

God of War: Ascension
God of War fans are just that because they are entertained by the violence, the brutality and finesse of Kratos and his crazy artillery. God of War: Ascension was given a live demo of the single player campagin at last night’s E3 Sony presentation, which cleared up a lot of worries amongst the crowds. All the general violence is in place, with added extras such as environment manipulation and the ability to pick up weapons and objects. Kratos has been given new combat styles and warfare abilities, including ‘ground and pound’ for areas of devestation and the exaggerated camera angles certainly helps to expose foes.

God of War: Ascension is set for release March 12th, 2013.

The launch of the Playstation Vita didn’t create the waves amongst the industry that Sony was hoping for. With the huge advancement in mobile gaming, handheld console sales should be expected to fall and that is exactly what transpired. It isn’t for the lack of ground breaking hardware in the device, it may well be the availabilty of titles for the handheld. Maybe more of a quantity of quality titles would instill more confidence in potential purchasers for the Playstation Vita. E3 2012 is the perfect place to announce such titles.

LittleBigPlanet (PSV)
The firm Playstation favourite, LittleBigPlanet and Sack Boy are heading to PSV, although no firm release date has been announced.

Augemented Reality (PSV)
AR is an incredible feat for the eyes and a real treat for the child gamer in us all. The E3 trailer below shows the full capability of AR for the Playstation Vita.

Sony announced over 20 new titles to be released on the Playstation 3 and PSV over the next year and beyond, and it is an incredible list of games.
