Doctor Who game Playstation exclusive

BBC Worldwide has confirmed that Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock will be a PlayStation® console exclusive in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (known in industry speak as “EMEA”).

Doctor Who and it’s Playstation exclusive? This fan is SOLD!! I personally think it great that the games are starting to spread to consoles, as it was always PC based before and it means they can reach a wider audience. From the screenshots and the trailer, it looks like this game is going to feature familiar characters and enemies alike!

Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock – which stars the voices of Matt Smith, and Alex Kingston as the Doctor and River Song – marks a significant move into the console gaming business for BBC Worldwide’s Digital Entertainment and Gaming division. Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock will immerse gamers in the universe of Doctor Who, allowing them to take on the role of the Doctor and River Song, as they travel across time and space to save the Earth in an epic adventure, encountering familiar enemies along the way.

“Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock is such an exciting release for us” said Robert Nashak, EVP Digital Entertainment and Gaming, BBC Worldwide. “It’s one of our most ambitious projects to date, using state of the art motion sensor technology to create stunning graphics as well as specially created vocals. We’re delighted that we’re able to team up with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe for this release, a company who are so well respected in the gaming universe.”

Zeno Colaço, SVP, Third Party Relations & Operations, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe commented that: “Doctor Who is such an iconic franchise, which appeals to people of all ages and backgrounds, worldwide. We are honoured to be able to include it amongst our portfolio of PlayStation console exclusive titles this year.”

Previously the BBC’s Doctor Who: The Adventure Games were available overseas on Windows and Mac via the Direct2Drive service. With The Eternity Clock looking set to inhabit only PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita devices outside of the UK (although a North America distribution arrangement is yet to be confirmed), it may yet cause some piracy issues when the PC version is released as fans further afield will want to play.

Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock will be launched on Playstation®3 and Playstation®Vita when it is released in March 2012, with a PC release to follow shortly after.

[Updated]

Through a PR email we have just recieved, and the uncertainty of whether the game would be available in North America. We can now confirm the game will be out on PC globally shortly after the PS3 and Vita release.
