New Nintendo console in 2013?

Nintendo of Japan CEO Mr. Saturo Iwata has recently undergone a six page Q&A session to insure investors, in which Mr. Iwata addresses stock prices, global expansion of Nintendo products, PR issues, and more.

However concerning a question about the 3DS and other ‘future hardware’, Mr. Iwata revealed a potential release time frame for the next Nintendo console saying, “Naturally, we are developing new products all the time. Whenever asked, our answer is yes, (we are making new products.) Our development departments are dedicated to developing new products. Once we release a product, we will soon move to the development of the next.”

He also went on to say, “Speaking of other products, we are of course studying and developing the next console to Wii… I am afraid to say that the history of entertainment is also the history of imitation. A great idea will promptly be copied unless protected through patents. At the same time, it is really important for our business to positively surprise people. Will you be surprised by our completed product if we told you how it is surprising three years in advance? Therefore, we basically disclose information on our products as late as possible. We believe this is the best approach for the entertainment products we are developing.”

Also within this interview Mr. Shigeru Miyamoto answered a question regarding his ‘future products’, and reveals the next pikmin game has been in development for possibly longer than planned saying, “I know that we have to complete the new Pikmin and I can tell you that development is going fairly smoothly.” reminding us also that the game is almost ten years old and shows a desire to create some new original character(s), “Now might be the time to create some new characters because the most recent character, Pikmin, is no less than ten years old soon.”
