New Fallout: New Vegas screens & info
Fallout: New Vegas is a sequel everybody who played Fallout 3 wanted, but didn’t expect to get so soon. With Bethesda no longer at the helm, giving development over to the well accomplished Obsidian Games, the people who brought us Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords which was great, but ultimately felt like more of the same. Hopefully this can add more depth as well as giving us the additional perspective of the fallout world.
From what Gamedot has discovered of the title two things seem to be etched-in-stone true. That this is more of the same with a new set of locations and story, and Obsidian have added to the character models of enemies and even brought back some classic Fallout one and two enemies back into the fray such as the gecko’s, which add a slightly deeper insight to the super mutant and raider type enemies. While there is obviously more, this is something we as gamers can fallback on, if the hype machine begins to turn nearer release.
Interestingly this instalment will not see your character born ala Fallout 3, rather much the opposite. Remember the excavator robot or the hand from the teaser trailer above? Well thats where your game starts. In the middle of the Mojave desert being dug up by a robot after your character suffers a near-death experience from two gunshots and is taken to a nearby old west town known as Goodsprings. Here you will be treated of your wounds and wake up with that typical pesky amnesia. All you know is that you were a courier taking a package across the desert and shot over it. It’s now up to you to find clues and info which will lead you to the people who tried to off you, and retrieve and ultimately deliver the package. I would be highly tempted to place a bet on when you do find the people who took the package that they don’t have it and have given it to their boss, who is either up on high or underground guarded by robots maze-like-tunnels, and other such headaches.
The best new addition from what I have found is a super-mutant I would love to introduce to Fawkes from Fallout 3 -Tabitha. Tabitha is a semi-self aware Super mutant that used to be a female but because of the mutation is a super freak so to remind ‘herself’ don’s a blonde 1950′s style blonde wig, red love heart glasses, and a blue scarf which goes oh-so-well with her number one accessory of a steel power mace. As you might have guessed Tabitha is one or five marbles short of a full set. You have been tasked to find a ghoul called Raul that she has captive, you will find a variety of super mutants in this gathering. from the semi-intelligent mutants like Tabitha and Fawkes, to your typical run of the mill super-mutants, and the new blue super mutants. Sound silly right? Well wait till they go Predator on you, as they have learned and over abused the stealthboy’s to the point they can turn invisible at will it would seem. You may have come across some fast moving stealthed Chinese ninja assassin types in Operation Anchorage. If you think they were pulse pounding imagine 5 stealthed super mutants… at once. So long as news of an invisible blue super mutant behemoth doesn’t come with video proof I think we’re alright.
More good news – If you ever played Morrowind or Oblivion you are aware of a type of mood wheel, well this sort of makes its way into New Vegas but more in the form of a command wheel where you can task your allies to do things more preferred to you rather than; stop, follow, kill-that-thing-in-the-distance-that hasn’t-even-rendered-for-me-just-yet & don’t kill anything. At a guess the eight options you can now give might be: going anti-clockwise – attack, carry, follow, come to me, talk, relax, heal and be passive.
The final note of interest without spoiling possible the first three opening hours of the game completely is a solar farm. This is a device which has remained inactive since the bombs went off. You will be tasked to make this piece of equipment operable again, then find out you are under attack, looking out below you will find an almost impossible to handle solo wave of enemies. So you turn on the machine and turn a ‘harmless’ solar farm into a concentrated solar beam. While I won’t go further it’s simple to see the choices after will verge on the equivalent of Megaton. While completely speculation via myself it seems a 1950′s based game in Las Vegas is no mere coincidence with the infamous ‘Roswell’ incident and ‘Area 51′ around, which will surely be hidden in the games wasteland, I will be very surprised if it isn’t included.
