PSN broken?

Reports are circulating that the PSN is broken for the pre-slim PS3 consoles.

According to a report on Boomtown, users cannot connect to the network, but are also having issues with offline games such as the new Heavy Rain game. This is apparently due to a Trophy corruption caused by the issue the network is being affected by.

Sony announced they were aware of the issue through their Twitter page, posting the following;

“PSN status update: We’re narrowing down the issue and continue to work to restore service to all. Updates as soon as we have them.”

This was quickly followed by a second update, confirming that it appears the slim version of the PS3 is not affected.

“PSN status update (part 2): Readers/followers are confirming that “slim” units (120/250 GB models) are connecting normally.”

These updates were 10 hours ago and there has been nothing from Sony since. However we can confirm that the issue still appears to be occuring, with our own PSN account being unable to sign in.

Any updates from Sony and we’ll let you know.
