Has the PS3 been hacked?
There was a report earlier this month that the PS3 had been hacked, allowing you to play copied and illegal games on the system. However the method was quite complex and would probably put a lot of people off, due to the methods and time required.
But a report late last night claims another hack has been performed on the console, this time by the man who broke open the iPhone.
It is claimed that he can now get the console to do whatever he wants, as well as being able to play pirated games, but he told BBC News “I’m not going to personally have anything to do with that”.
He also claims that Sony will find it difficult to patch his hack, who are now looking into the claims now.
The hack is still being refined, but George Hotz has said he will post details on the internet in the near future.
So does this mean that the last of the three consoles has now properly been hacked? It’s only taken three years. It will be interesting to see how Sony responds to this if it is indeed correct. Microsoft ban any Xbox Live account they find using a modified console, with the latest purge removing around 100,000 users it was reported.
