Ubi to cut down licenses

Despite the massive success of the movie Avatar in the cinemas, the game hasn’t done quite as well with a best position of number nine achieved this week.

And so it finally seems that a publisher has cottoned on that games related to films generally aren’t a success. According to a report on MCVUK yesterday, Ubisoft are set to cut the amount of funding they pump out on licenses due to the lack of return they see on them.

“The goal is to reduce the investment in licenses, and put more emphasis on making our brands bigger and to release them more often, with very high quality,” Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot told investors.

“It doesn’t mean we will stop, but we are going to spend less on licenses in the future.”
